CASH Prize Tournaments:
Every Spring and Fall Tournaments are held at Springs Trampoline Park. They are typically after 5-6 weeks of club league play. They tournament takes place Friday evenings starting at 7:30pm for registration. Please details for the next upcoming tournament.
The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them “OUT”. This may be done by:
1. Hitting an opposing player with a LIVE thrown ball below the shoulders.
2. Catching a LIVE ball thrown by your opponent before it touches the ground.
Definition: LIVE: A ball that has been thrown and has not touched anything, including the floor/ground, another ball, another player, official or other item outside of the playing field (wall, ceiling, etc).
Official Placement: During a game, the official must be located on the black platforms to control who is leaving the court and entering the court. During the Championship game, there will be two officials with the extra referee being placed against the wall pads right on the center line.
Teams will be made up of 5-10 players. Up to 8 players will compete on each side; additional team members will be available as substitutes. Substitutes may enter the game only during timeouts or in the case of an injury. A team may play below 8 players but may not play below 5 players. Example: If team “A” brought 10 players and chooses to play with all 8 with 2 subs, while Team “B” only brought 7 but wants to play with only 5 and two subs that would be allowed. They can use those players as subs or can be put on deck or in the hole.
Time-outs and Substitutions
Timeouts will only be accessed at the discretion of the referee for injuries or other circumstances which require a stoppage. Teams are not permitted to call timeout on their own during gameplay once the match has started. Substitutions must be made between matches as well as notification provided to the referee on the specific substitution made. Substitutions may not occur once the match has started unless an injury has occurred.
5 Second Violation
In order to reduce stalling, a violation will be called if a team controls the majority of the dodgeballs without making any attempts to throw the dodgeballs at the opposing players.
Game begins by placing the dodgeballs and a foot along the center pad. Following a signal by the official, teams may approach the back black trampoline and must “touch” it before throwing a dodgeball. This signal officially starts the contest. Be aware, you can still get out in the “Opening Rush” if you do not get to the back wall fast enough.
Timing & Winning the Game
The first team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be declared the winner. A three-minute time limit has been established for each contest. If neither team has been eliminated at the end of the three minutes, the team with the greater number of players remaining will be declared the winner.
NOTE: Time limit may be optional depending on rules for the event, and would nullify options such as Random Jailbreaks or Last Man Standing Breaks.
Throw: Players can get other players out by throwing a dodgeball and hitting an opposing player anywhere on the body except for the head. (House and tournament rules are subject to change in this regard.)
As of right now Head Shots should never happen. Meaning if you get hit in the head you are not out nor the person throwing the ball, unless you duck into the head shot. This will be at referee’s decision to call you out or to leave you in the match. Before impact, the dodgeball must be LIVE, meaning that it has not come into contact with any inanimate object such as the ground, wall, ceiling, or another dodgeball. If the ball hits a player, bounces off, and hits another player, both are out. Think of it like this: the dodgeball is LIVE as long as it touches things that are alive! This is known as a double elimination.
Catch: If a player catches a LIVE ball thrown by the opposing team, the player who threw it is out. Again, the ball must be LIVE. If the dodgeball bounces off of a teammate and a player catches it, they have saved the player initially hit, and the thrower is out.
On Deck: The first person eligible to re-enter the game. This person should be standing on the black pad on top of the stairs. Only one person per team is “On deck” at a time.
In The Hole: The second eligible person to re-enter the game. This person is allowed to stand on the stairs on their respective side of the court. When the teams’ “On Deck” player returns to play this person moves up the stairs to replace them. Only one player for each team “In The Hole” at one time.
Out Players: Players beyond the first two per team that have gotten out. These players will stand at the bottom of the stairs in the order that they were struck out. They will proceed through the order of “In The Hole” and “On Deck” as players in front of them return to play.
NOTE: Team captains/Coaches can readjust the order of outed players in order to make strategic moves
Unintentionally hit: If a player walking off the court is unintentionally hit with a ball, then the ball will be ruled dead at the discretion of the official.
Kicking a dodgeball: across the court will not be permitted as an allowed ‘shot.’ If any participant kicks a ball across the court and the kicked ball hits anyone on the opposing team, they will not be ruled out. If a participant repeatedly kicks the ball across the court after a warning, the official may eject the offending participant from the game.
Pinching or crushing: the ball will not be permitted while throwing. One warning per match per team may be given by the official, and any player who violates a pinch or crush after the team warning will be ruled out at the official’s discretion. The following diagram demonstrates what a typical ‘pinch’ or ‘crush’ looks like.
Hoarding Clause: In order to keep the game flowing the referee has the authority to enact the Hoarding Clause. This can happen when one team has fewer players and is hoarding the majority of the dodgeballs. A five second countdown is started by the time the clock reaches zero all dodgeball need to have cleared that side of the court.
Catch: Players may re-enter the game if an in-game teammate catches a LIVE ball. Players must re-enter the game in the same order as they got out. Upon re-entering, players must touch the back wall trampoline before they are considered in-play.
Basket Break: If any player on either team makes a basket in the opposing team’s hoop, their entire team re-enters the game. Each player must still touch the back wall trampoline before they are considered in-play.
(OPTIONAL) Random Jailbreak: The referee has the power to call “Jailbreak!” at any point in the game. This allows all players out to re-enter the game. This is typically done to help balance against an overpowered team is discouraged in league and tournament play. * Not in tournament or league play
(OPTIONAL) Last Man Standing Break: If one team has only one player left and the other team has more than five players left, the referee may call “Last man standing,” whereby, if the one player gets just one of the five players out, his/her entire team re-enters the game. *Not in tournament or league play
“Parlay” When a referee did not see the current play he yells “parlay” and both players stay in. But must run and touch the back trampoline to reactivate themselves.
